Version 4.5 of WordPress, named “Coleman” in honor of jazz saxophonist Coleman Hawkins, is available for update in your WordPress dashboard. Now I have been totally loving all these versions being named for honorable Jazz musicians and saxophonists. I happen to be a saxophonist myself and my love of the sax started way back in the very early 1980’s– but that’s another story. 🙂
New features in 4.5 help streamline your workflow, whether you’re writing or building your site. There really are an amazing list of new features which you are sure to love!
A Word About Updates
I know you’ve heard me talk about this before but it’s never– I repeat never a solid idea to simply click auto update in your WP dashboard. It’s always a good idea to ensure all of your plugins are compatible with this newest release of core.
By clicking update you could break your site or functionality; which isn’t good at all.
If you need pro assistance I am always glad to help a fellow WordPress lover.
Seriously though, Beth…are WP updates truly necessary?
The answer is– Yes. WordPress websites MUST be updated including plugins, themes and framework anytime you see that an update is available. If you don’t, your site will eventually be *hacked* because of a security bug in old software. The contents of your site will be replaced with something malicious, and your e-mail will be used to send offensive spam.
In some cases it is advisable to ensure compatibility first before applying an update to core.
